Norwegian military small-arms & blades

With the exception of the grip, the M1825 artillery saber should be absolutely identical to the M1825 Cavalry saber. The rod between the rings on the scabbard is not on my cavalry saber and I wonder what it was used for. This saber was produced at Kongsberg Våpenfabrikk.
